Series IDA "Quick Dump" Air-Operated Drain Valve

Fail-Safe or Double-Acting Design

quick dump valve for wet bench

Features/Benefits:

  • Choice of double-acting air x air or normally-closed operation
  • Bubble-tight seal with up to 25” of water
  • Minimum 40 psi opens spring-loaded version full stroke
  • Large flow area for ultra-fast drain
  • Accessible maintenance, even when welded into sink
  • Normally-closed design uses non-wetted, stainless steel spring

Design:

The Plast-O-Matic Quick Dump Valve is designed for use in wet benches where the liquid in the sink has to be drained as quickly as possible. The valve is cemented or fused directly into the drain, depending on the material. A spring or air-loaded piston keeps the valve closed bubble-tight with up to 25” of water. A u-cup dynamic shaft seal eliminates sticking and allows smooth, instant movement of the piston. The outflow area is designed to provide superior drainage performance.

Standard operation is normally closed (air x spring) and opened with air pressure controlled by a remote 3-way solenoid valve. When air pressure is relieved, a non-wetted internal spring automatically closes valve. 40 PSI is required to fully open the air x spring version; maximum air pressure is 80 PSI.

The valve can be ordered, or easily converted to, a double-acting (air x air) design. In the double acting design, a remote 4-way air solenoid valve is used to control air pressure to open, and air pressure to close. Air x air requires 15 PSI to open full stroke, 20 PSI to close bubble-tight against 25" of water column. The air x air version can be used for much higher head pressure by increasing the air pressure used; maximum air pressure is 80 PSI.

Series IDA provides up to 50% greater flow capacity and requires less air pressure to operate. Higher flows translate into less particle adhesion to tank sidewalls and higher purity; lower air pressure permits installation flexibility. The valve is designed to the Plast-O-Matic "Million Cycle Life" standard under laboratory conditions; actual longevity may vary greatly depending on the application. A kit is available to replace all seals, the seat, and spring to rebuild Series IDA as necessary.

Materials of Construction:

Valve body, housing, piston & cylinder are choice of natural polypro, Kynar PVDF, or Geon PVC. Elastomers are choice of EPDM or FKM (Viton). In the normally-closed version, the spring (non-wetted) is 316 stainless steel. For other plastics or elastomers, please consult factory.

Flow Information:

This valve empties a tank or sink. The pressure drops as the tank empties, therefore the Cv factor changes continuously. For this reason we do not provide a Cv because Cv requires a constant pressure drop during flow.

Test Results, 6" Size: The valve flowed 176 GPM on average over a 1 minute period. This is based on a 13” diameter tank, 21 inches tall emptying 10 gallons through the valve in a period of 3.4 seconds. The test began with a pressure head of 25 inches of water.

Test Results, 5" Size: The valve flowed 133 GPM on average over a 1 minute period. This is based on a 13” diameter tank, 21 inches tall emptying 10 gallons through the valve in a period of 4.5 seconds. The test began with a pressure head of 25 inches of water.

Test Results, 4" Size: The valve flowed 83.1 GPM on average over a 1 minute period. This is based on a 13” diameter tank, 21 inches tall emptying 9 gallons through the valve in a period of 6.5 seconds. The test began with a pressure head of 25 inches of water.

Note: each size air x spring valve is seated leak tight at 25” of water head.
